What is an ADU? An ADU is an abbreviation for accessory dwelling unit and essentially its a second home on the same property.
Effective January 2020 the California legislature passed some ADU laws in an effort to encourage people to build ADU's on their properties. If you don't already know there is a housing shortage in California. The state of California mandated more lenient ordinance (or law) allowing what you might know as a "granny flat" to be built on a property generally speaking within 4 feet of the property line with certain restrictions.

The law is a mandate from the state forced down upon cities however we note that cities have added more restrictions (perfectly within their right) beyond the state law so the city standards and requirements vary slightly from city to city.
